18 and life to go.

Valencia “Val” de Vasco comes from a background of crime, her records showing her for counts of theft, possession [of drugs and alcohol], manslaughter and even a murder charge that was dismissed as self-defense. Val was born to live the life of crime, born to be one of those Batman worked against. It was only natural as she was born to a low-class family, her parents dying when she was not even six. After that, her uncle took care of her and her older brother. Her uncle, the brother of her late mother was a terrible man, a heavy alcoholic and drug addict and he was horribly abusive to Valencia and her brother. He told Val he would kill her if she ever told anyone, and so she suffered in silence until one night she couldn’t handle it any longer.

She killed him. Cocked the gun and pulled the trigger and watched numbly as he died before her eyes.

Valencia was sixteen years old and by this time her brother had already moved out, left her alone with her creep of an uncle, left her to become hard due to the feuding in the streets of Gotham. She made plans to leave Gotham and find her brother but was intercepted by Batman [Alex Wayne] who demanded to know why she had killed and Val completely broke down and told him everything.

And he did something that changed her life forever. He offered her a chance to reform. He asked her to become his partner. There was some initially some debate as to whether Val would take the cowl of Batgirl or the guise of Robin but in the end it was settled.

Batman & Robin were Gotham’s Dynamic Duo. They would remain so.

With training from Alex and the rest of the Bat-family, Valencia [who was already quite a talented street fighter] became Robin; The Girl Wonder and joined Batman on the rooftops.

Fought like a switchblade so no one could take her down.
